East Texas Giving Day! APRIL 26, 2022

What is East Texas Giving Day? East Texas Giving Day is an 18-hour day of giving that provides critical funding for our area nonprofits. The purpose of an area-wide Giving Day is to bring the region together on one day and as one community, raising money and awareness for East Texas nonprofits. This initiative, organized by East Texas Communities Foundation (ETCF), provides citizens an easy platform to support the mission of local nonprofits that serve our many communities. Tyler Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center (TDHHC)

TDHHC began in 2012 when a local group met to discuss the possibility of starting a deaf center. There was no location in the Tyler area where individuals who are deaf could meet for activities, fellowship and services. That meeting led to the formation of Tyler Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center. The vision of TDHHC is to offer a comprehensive group of services for people who are deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind. This includes interpreter services, after-school and summer programs for children, senior citizen programs, sign language classes, adult literacy classes and more.

Our interpreter services have become well established in the community offering much needed services for deaf individuals. In fact, we continue to recruit additional well qualified/certified interpreters. We have made it easier for entities- like doctor’s offices, hospitals and attorneys to comply with ADA regulations that prohibit exclusivity by offering interpreter services at predictable simple rates with a simple agreement. Entities can feel confident they can offer their deaf consumers qualified certified interpreters without extra expense based on the interpreter’s level of certification. This allows TDHHC to be any entity’s “insurance” or “back-up plan” even if they use other agencies’ services.

TDHHC is continually exploring opportunities to offer other programs for the deaf and hard of hearing community, such as, our Senior Citizen coordinator offers monthly activities for our seniors and local city and community libraries have begun to offer Children’s reading programs that are interpreted.

Donations are greatly appreciated since the center is fully dependent on support from individual donations, fund raisers or corporate donations.

TDHHC is organized exclusively for charitable services and educational purpose for the deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind community in East Texas.

TDHHC is a "deaf-friendly one-stop shop." Deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind related services are accessible in one location serving individuals in East Texas.
